Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo says he remains close to Sir Alex Ferguson because he's always kept his word.
Ronaldo and Ferguson were reunited for an interview on Friday.
Ronaldo said: "Everything that he said to me, he did. Imagine you're an 18-year-old and you arrive from Sporting and you play with the stars; [Ryan] Giggs, [Paul] Scholes, [Roy] Keane, [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer. I was a little bit nervous, but he helped me a lot with the communication. He called me sometimes to his office with the translator there, but doesn't matter.
"The important thing is to tell me things to help me to grow up like a person, like a player and, since day one, everything that he told me, he did. I appreciate that a lot. I always say that he's like a father for me in football. I have to appreciate everything he did for me, for my family and especially for the club. He did an amazing job."
Sir Alex responded: "As a manager or anyone in a position of leadership and management, the one thing you have to try and instil in the people who work under you is confidence and trust in the manager. In time, they understand that trust and they become loyal to you. They know that if they have a problem, they can come to me in confidence. That door of mine was always open.
"A knock on the door to come with any problem they had. It was always open to that and I think through that mechanism, the players begin to understand they can trust you. There was always understanding that I don't like losing, particularly when the expectation of the Manchester United players drops, I can't allow that. Trust, I think, Cristiano and other players coming to the club would understand in time."
