Sabah PKR chief unfazed by group calling for her ouster

KOTA KINABALU – Datuk Christina Liew is unfazed by a group attempting to oust her as Sabah PKR chairman.

Liew said she has more important things to deal with, like preparing the party for the 15th general election (GE15) – besides the fact that her appointment as state chief came under the auspices of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“I am too busy to be worried about this, working here and there to promote the party.

“(I am busy) running around with programmes and recruitment, so if you ask me to be worried...at this point, I will say I would be worried if I cannot promote PKR.

“I don’t want a repeat of Sarawak. My focus is to bring PKR forward, and win seats for the party. That is my priority. I’m not saying I’m not concerned, but I don’t know what their motive is. 

“They want a new chairman, and they will leave everything to the president to decide,” she told reporters in Penampang today.

Around 5pm today, 16 state PKR division chiefs and six other party leaders openly declared their call for the chairman to be replaced.

The division chiefs include Datuk Dr Sangkar Rasam (Keningau), Sazalye Donol (Kota Marudu), Simsudin Sidek (Labuan), Dausil Kundayong (Tuaran), Franti Kuntau (Papar), Wendey Agung Baruh (Sipitang), Peter Sumping (Ranau), Raymond Ahuar (Pensiangan), Matusin Apang (Batu Sapi), Sahrudin Harol (Sandakan), Romansa Lamin (Silam), Sahrul Zakaria (Kalabakan), Barani Ampise (Tenom), Roslan Hussin (Kimanis), and Abdul Gani Zebika (Tawau).

The other leaders comprise Rubiah Onga (Sabah PKR Wanita chief), Datin Rufina Pangeran (Sabah PKR Wanita deputy chief), Manja Matdin (central exco member), Junaidah Makku (state PKR women’s youth wing chief), Rosli Masliku (Sabah leadership council member), and Stefly Said (state leadership council member).

Speaking on behalf of the group, Rasam said a leadership change in Sabah PKR is needed in order to strengthen the state chapter in facing the forthcoming GE15.

“We will ensure undivided support is given to Anwar as the sole prime minister candidate for Malaysia,” he noted.

Rasam said Anwar has already been informed, and they are currently waiting for him to decide on the matter. – The Vibes, December 19, 2021
