Kota Kinabalu: A trip home for Christmas for a family of five ended in tragedy when two of them were killed after their vehicle was involved in a collision with a lorry.
The family was headed to their hometown in Keningau when the accident occurred along Jalan Kimanis-Keningau at 2pm.
State fire and rescue assistant director (operations) Misran Bisara said the dead were Deny Rizlin William, 36, and her nine-year-old daughter, Daphne Dale.
He said a rescue team was immediately deployed following a distress call at 2.14pm.
“Paramedics, who were also at the scene, confirmed the duo had died on the spot,” he said.
The three other family members in the vehicle, identified as William Baru Ngilo, 61, Daryleen Chilap, 13, and Daniela Dale, 6, sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The 43-year-old driver of the lorry only suffered minor injuries, Misran added.
