Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists his proposal of a World Cup every two years has majority support.

Indeed, the FIFA technical chief says opposition against the idea is not based on facts.

He declared: "What I regret is that 90 per cent of the resistance is emotions, and not facts or analysis. We need to overcome this fear, because most of the emotions we face are based on fear. Fear of losing control of your own tournament, which is not correct.

"There is a demand in society among the young fans for meaningful events and if we do not create them, another sport will do it. We have an opportunity to give countries the chance to improve, and I think it's worth fighting for.

"But in the end, it is 211 countries that make that choice - not the president or me, but world football, that makes that decision, and we will respect that decision."
