Kota Kinabalu: The recent Malaysian Family Sale programme (PJKM) has received an overwhelming response from the public with an attendance of 55,137 consumers with purchases worth RM514,846.35.
Sabah Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) Office Director Georgie Abas said the programme was conducted simultaneously from Dec 18-19, in 15 Parliamentary constituencies in the State.
The involved constituencies, he said, were Kudat, Tuaran, Ranau, Sepanggar, Kota Kinabalu, Beaufort, Sipitang, Keningau, Tenom, Libaran, Sandakan, Silam, Semporna , Tawau and Kalabakan.
“PJKM was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in Kuala Lumpur, on Dec 2,” he said in a statement, Monday.
“The programme was then extended to Sabah and the whole Malaysia beginning Dec 4.
“For Sabah, PJKM was previously held in Putatan on Dec 4, and Kota Marudu on Dec 12.”
The programme, he said, was coordinated by KPDNHEP to help ease the increasing cost of living of the people, especially among the low-income group.
“It was organised in cooperation between KPDNHEP, Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (Mafi) and the Finance Ministry (MOF) to tackle the increasing prices of goods in Malaysia,” he said.
The programme is planned to be held twice a month for three months beginning Dec 4, covering all 222 Parliamentary constituencies in the county.
“PJKM offers daily necessities with discounts up to 20 per cent.”
Among the items on sale are chicken, fish, eggs, vegetable, cooking oil, sugar, flour, rice and processed goods.
“PJKM is hoped to encourage consumers to plan their purchases and to make wise choices to reduce the burden of household expenses.
“KPDNHEP also reminds all traders to always obey the set rules and regulations,” he said.
Georgie also said that KPDNHEP enforcement officers will continue to carry out monitoring and inspections to ensure that the supply is always stable and there is not element of profiteering in the market.
