Vitesse general director Pascal van Wijk is confident Tottenham will accept UEFA's matchday ruling.

Tottenham are out of the Europa Conference League following UEFA's outcome over their postponed game against Rennes. The result was given to Rennes 0-3 and so saw the French and Vitesse qualify for the knockout phase.

"It was a special and difficult situation, in which we would have found a different decision difficult to stomach," Van Wijk explained to the club's official website.

“The last eleven days have been bizarre, of course. We managed to beat NS Mura 3-1, but at first we had no idea whether we could be happy with that or not.

"Normally you immediately know where you stand after a match or competition, but this time it was an unreal situation.

"We are happy that the confirmation has now come, although of course it remains a strange end to the group stage.

"In addition, an appeal could in theory follow, although based on the first signals, that does not appear to be happening."

He added: “An achievement that anyone with a yellow-black heart can be extremely proud of.

“It is also a huge compliment to our players and staff. Vitesse is on the map internationally.

"We have expressed this season that we believe in more and we have put action into these words."
