WHERE the land meets the sea, Silam Coast Conservation Area (SCCA) is one of the most fragile ecosystem for marine and coastal area in Borneo. Located in Darvel Bay, Lahad Datu which lies within the Coral Triangle and also Sulu Sea covers an area of 2,770 hectares. It comprises Tanjung Tumunong Hallu, Bangkuruan Mangrove Forest Reserves, and the two nearby Tabun and Saranga islands.

It is globally known for its marine-rich biodiversity and is part of the Priority Conservation Area of the Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Eco-region (SSME), covered by mixed swamp, secondary and mangrove forests. The diversity of flora and fauna in SCCA makes it an ideal conservation area for marine and terrestrial environments.
