SHAH ALAM, Dec 1 — Selangor recorded a total of 9,617 deaths caused by Covid-19, from 2020 until November 2021.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said last year 66 deaths were recorded, and this year saw 9,551 deaths up until November.

She was responding to a query from Kuala Kubu Bharu assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong, which was taken over by Banting assemblyman Lau Weng San during the State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

“Out of the 9,551 deaths recorded until November 2021, 7,833 are Malaysian citizens consisting of Malay (4,696), Chinese (1,800), Indian (1,285) and others (52), so the highest deaths due to Covid-19 recorded this year are Malay, followed by Chinese and Indian.

“The remaining 1,718 deaths involve non-Malaysian citizens,” Dr Siti Mariah said.

She also gave numbers on the deaths of those who have been fully vaccinated with two Covid-19 vaccine doses, based on records from the Selangor State Health Department in 2021.

“This year, from June 1 when the vaccination began until September 30, approximately 775 or 9.1 per cent out of 8,515 deaths are those who have been fully vaccinated with two doses,” Dr Siti Mariah said.

She also gave the number of deaths involving comorbid individuals who have been fully vaccinated.

“As of November 24 this year, 1,234 fully-vaccinated individuals have died from Covid-19, of which 759 or 62 per cent are comorbid, while 475 or 38 per cent were not comorbid.

“Out of the 759 deaths involving fully-vaccinated individuals who are comorbid, 741 or 98 per cent are senior citizens, while 18 or two per cent of them are not senior citizens who were comorbid,” Dr Siti Mariah said.
