A male suspect fled and left a boat with various explosives, believed for fish blasting purposes, on seeing a police patrol craft in the waters of Pulau Selakan, Semporna, on Sunday.
Commanding Officer of the Semporna Marine Police Operations Headquarters (PPM), DSP Mohammad Ismail, said the suspect sped his boat to a shallow area and fled to Selakan during the 4pm incident.
“An inspection on the boat found several fishing equipment, including explosives and diving equipment, as well as various types of fish.
“The total value of the confiscated items is estimated at RM8,700,” he said, Monday.
Mohammad said the seizures were taken to the PPM Operations Headquarters before being handed over to the Fisheries Department for further investigation under the Fisheries Act 1985.
