West Ham will push on with plans for Liverpool defender Nat Phillips in January, despite his recent injury.

David Moyes is keen to bring in a central defender next month after both Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma suffered long-term injuries - and Phillips had been identified as a target.

However, any move for the 24-year-old looked to be in jeopardy when it was confirmed last week that Phillips had suffered a fractured cheekbone during his superb performance against AC Milan in the Champions League.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, though, is hopeful that the defender will be back in training this week and that, while he will follow an individual training programme, could be fit again by early to mid-January.

It is thought Liverpool would only sanction a permanent deal with an asking price of around £10million, says the London Evening Standard.
