PETALING JAYA: A Hulu Langat flood survivor has revealed that it was foreigners who rescued the flood victims while government agencies were nowhere in sight during the weekend floods.
A video that went viral yesterday showed a woman telling Noh Omar, the former chairman of the state’s National Security Council (MKN), that no action was taken by the government despite numerous calls made to the government agencies.
The entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister had been the state’s MKN chairman since November before the post was handed again to Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari.
The woman told Noh it was Indonesian citizens who finally came to the rescue.
“Three Indonesian citizens came in a sampan to rescue children who were stranded on a rooftop. They were the ones who helped us. What about the government agencies? What were they doing at that time?
“We were in a critical state on Sunday but no one came to help except JPAM (civil defence department).
“However, JPAM only sent three boats for the entire Hulu Langat area. Three boats were not enough to rescue everyone,” she said.
She said government agencies only came after the flood waters had started to recede.
The floods that hit the country on Saturday have claimed 27 lives so far, the highest death toll since the last major floods in 2014.
Twenty of the fatalities were reported in Selangor and seven in Pahang.
