TAWAU: A man was rushed to hospital here due to trauma when his house in Kg Muhibbah Raya, near here, was destroyed in a fire around 7pm, Sunday.

Tawau Fire and Rescue Station chief, Julius John Stephens Jr, said the 49-year-old man was rushed to Tawau Hospital using a Civil Defence Force (APM) vehicle which also assisted in the operation.

Julius said 18 officers and firefighters as well as a machine and two utility vehicles rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call via MERS999 at 7.12pm.

According to him, the fire involved a semi-permanent two-storey house measuring 30 x 50 which burned 100 percent.

“Our team carried out the extinguishing operation using two 200 -foot streams with four fountains, using water from a nearby fire hydrant,” he said.

Julius said his team managed to control the fire from spreading at 8.26pm and ended the operation at 9.09pm after there was no more danger in the area.

According to him, the cause of the fire and the amount of losses are still under investigation by his team.
