S’gor closes several Hulu Langat roads to facilitate post-flood waste collections

SHAH ALAM – Several roads around the Hulu Langat district will be closed for two hours every day from today to Thursday to facilitate the clearing of post-flood rubbish in Selangor.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the closure from 8am to 10am is for the collection of garbage now pilling up by the roadside, making it difficult for KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd trucks to take out the waste.

“Initially, we wanted to close them for two days only, but we decided to implement it daily except from Friday to Sunday,” he said in a media conference on flood developments here today.

Amirudin said the congestion on the roads in the district was due to the presence of many volunteers helping to bring out the waste, and as such more operation days were allocated to handle the huge volume of waste.

As of today, Amirudin said, 13,699.55 tonnes of rubbish have been collected involving a cost of RM6.03 million.

He said the state government is studying the possibility of implementing the same operation in Padang Jawa and Taman Sri Muda in Klang, and the residents would be informed one day earlier to facilitate their planning.

Amirudin also said the state government needed more than RM368 million to carry out various flood mitigation projects in the state. – Bernama, December 27, 2021
