Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old man was sentenced to 15 months’ jail on Tuesday for threatening to kill his mother.

Unemployed Almudin Lohong pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to committing the offence to one Licia Arsad, 54, at 9am on March 8, this year in a house at Kg Lok Urai, Pulau Gaya.

Inspector Albert Basiri, prosecuting, told the court that Almudin went berserk and damaged the properties in the house as well as threatening to kill her and his father.

The complainant lodged a police report as she feared for their safety.

When asked by the court about his reason for behaving in such a way, Almudin claimed that he was not aware at that time as he was drunk.

Almudin promised not to commit a similar offence.

He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.

The court ordered Almudin, who has no valid identification document, to serve his sentence from the date arrest then referred to the Immigration Department after.

In another case, a 28-year-old woman was fined RM1,000 or two months jail for having illegal gambling paraphernalia.

Ruina Faisal admitted to having five pieces of 4D slips illegally at a five-foot-way of a restaurant in Donggongon town, Penampang at 5.22pm on May 26.

The offence under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act carries a jail term of up to six months, or fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.
