KUALA LUMPUR – A picturesque kampung house in Hulu Langat was left decimated after it was completely swept away by floodwaters that wreaked havoc in the Klang Valley yesterday.
Images of the house in its original state and the aftermath went viral on social media after Facebook user Najib Khadzi shared the before-and-after pictures of the tragedy.
In a brief caption, Najib said the house belonged to his relative.
“(This is) the house belonging to my sister-in-law’s auntie in Hulu Langat,” Najib said.
At press time, the post has gained over 4,400 likes and 11,000 shares, as well as an outpouring of sympathy by netizens.
The Vibes has reached out to the house owner for comment but has yet to receive a response.
Hulu Langat is one of the worst-hit districts in Selangor after torrential rain began showering the Klang Valley on Friday.
As Typhoon Rai strikes hard at the Philippines, its repercussions are now hitting Malaysia.
The freak storm has been attributed to Tropical Depression 29, which has pounded the Philippines with Typhoon Rai (Odette), leaving at least 75 people dead.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued warnings over continuous rain for most areas in Peninsular Malaysia, with red alert raised in eight Selangor districts and in Kuala Lumpur until today.
The department said the downpour would hit Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, and Hulu Langat.
Other states affected included Kelantan (Gua Musang) and Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Jerantut, Maran, and Kuantan). – The Vibes, December 19, 2021
