Newcastle are in talks with Brighton chief Dan Ashworth.
The Daily Mail says Brighton have given permission for technical director Ashworth to speak to Newcastle United ahead of their restructure.
Brighton do not wish to lose highly regarded Ashworth, 50, but recognise the challenge is a difficult one to resist for the former FA technical director.
Newcastle hired Nick Hammond last week as a transfer advisor ahead of the January market.
Ashworth could yet be installed before the New Year.
