As Malaysia starts to gradually reopen borders from January 1 and “does not have plans to close again”, Sabah too hopes that the move to reopen borders will be beneficial to the state’s tourism industry.
According to it Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, the tourism sector in the state is dependent on foreign tourists especially from China.
“We hope many tourists from China will visit Sabah. This will help revive the local tourism sector and boost the state’s economy.”
The statement was made following the Chief Minister’s courtesy call with Liang Ciade, Consul-General of China in Kota Kinabalu.
In the courtesy call, Lian explained that the Chinese Embassy is currently promoting Sabah as one of Malaysia’s major tourist destinations.
Additionally, the Chief Minister said that the presence of tourists was crucial to revive the state’s economy that was severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Let’s hope that Sabah’s tourism industry will continue to flourish with the advent of foreign tourists.
