Ranau cops warn those violating SOPs

RANAU: Police will take stern action against anyone found violating the Covid-19 SOPs to ensure that the community in the district continues to be protected from the pandemic.

Ranau District Police Chief, DSP Simiun Lomudin said every day the positive cases of Covid-19 showed an increase involving several clusters and also infected students.

Therefore, he said, police will continue to intensify enforcement under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 to ensure the health of the people is guaranteed and does not interfere with their daily routine.

“We will not hesitate to issue compound to any party who arbitrarily violates the SOPs that has been set. I am confident that the community really understood all the rules outlined under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters during the Official Visit of Deputy Home Minister II, Datuk Jonathan Yasin to the Ranau Police Headquarters on Monday.

In the meantime, Simiun also advised the community who will be celebrating the Chinese New Year to continue to fully comply with the SOPs to ensure that no Covid-19 infection occurs during the festival.

He added that, although some flexibility has been set, all parties must be responsible and not complacent even in an atmosphere of fun with the family.

Apart from that, he also stressed on road safety compliance, especially to warn drivers not to drive under the influence of alcohol to avoid any unwanted incidents.

He said police will take stern action against offenders who violate traffic rules, especially those who drive intoxicated under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 Amendment 2020 while reckless driving resulting in a fatal accident can be taken action under Section 41 (1) Road Transport Act 1987.

“All road users are reminded to always be careful when driving, especially during this festive season. Avoid negligence so to avoid accident. And do not drive while under the influence of alcohol,” he said sternly.

He added that his party also welcomes cooperation from all parties to channel any information on criminal misconduct that occurs in the district, including violations of SOPs so that appropriate action can be taken.
