SANDAKAN: A headmistress and a teacher were charged with misappropriating properties involving RM5,000 and abetting to commit the crime.

Crispina Juhari @ Jimah, 60, and teacher Zarina @ Zalina Amat, 53, pleaded not guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat, to the charge against them, Thursday.

Crispina and Zarina are accused of misappropriating the collection of Wang Sumbangan Wang Awam (Suwa) amounting to RM5,000 for the payment of prizes for the classroom cleanliness competition, mural competition and singing competition which were held in conjunction with the school’s beautification programme at SK Bandar Sandakan.

The offence allegedly took place at the school on Sept 25, 2018.

The duo was charged under Section 403 of the Penal Code and 109 of the same Code. The court offered bail of RM8,000 with RM5,000 deposited to Crispina and RM6,000 with RM3,000 deposited for Zarina in a local surety each.

The court also ordered the duo to report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)’s office once in two months and their passports if any, to be impounded by the court until the disposal of their case. The court set March 8 for mention.

Crispina was also charged with releasing RM3,400 for the rental of the school’s co-operative bookstore by violating the management procedures between Jan 17 and July 18, 2019. However, no plea was recorded from Crispina as her plea would be taken on March 8.

MACC Prosecuting Officer Dzulkarnain Rousan Hasbi prosecuted while Crispina and Zarina were not represented.
