
Kota Kinabalu: A man in his 50s escaped unhurt after the Isuzu Invader he was driving caught fire along Jalan Pelabuhan, near here, at 11.15am, Thursday.
The driver had just finished attending a meeting at One Borneo and was on his way to the city centre.
The victim when contacted said he heard some sounds and not long after, thick smoke was coming out of his vehicle’s gearbox.
The Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 11.32am via MERS999.
According to its Operation Commander, Assistant Fire Superintendent (PPgB) Mohammad Hannis Moktar, 10 firefighters along with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), a Rapid Intervention Motorcycle (RIM) and a Vigo were deployed to the location.
He said the fire was extinguished using an auxiliary flow from the machinery and a pump unit from RIM.
“The operation was controlled at 11:47 am and ended at 11:50 am,” he said, adding that there were no injuries and deaths reported.
The vehicle was totally destroyed.
