PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino was ready to move to Manchester United last month, it has been revealed.

Marca says United acted quickly after the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and made a direct approach to the Argentine.

For his part, Pochettino was willing to move and informed PSG chief Leonardo of his wish.

Leonardo and president Nasser Al-Khelaifi were willing to allow Pochettino to return to England in December, but only if they could reach an agreement with Zinedine Zidane to replace him.

But this is where all negotiations stopped, with the former Real Madrid coach refusing to consider a return to management at that stage.

This led to Pochettino agreeing to remain in Paris until the end of the season, while United hired Ralf Rangnick as caretaker manager to June.
