
KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases have breached the 5,000 mark with 5,439 infections today, pulling ahead of yesterday’s 4,744.
According to Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, today’s new cases bring the cumulative total to 2,850,408.
Currently, there are 129 active ICU cases and 1,075 daily hospital admissions.
He said of today’s caseload, 47 are in Categories 3, 4 and 5, as this shows the vaccine’s efficacy as severe cases and hospital/ICU (124) admissions have decreased. The rest of the cases are under Categories 1 and 2.
In his statement, he said 332 cases are imported while 5,107 are local.
Some 70 patients require ventilation aid.
There are 22 new clusters with 274 active ones.
Meanwhile, Negri Sembilan has the highest infectivity rate at 1.18, followed by Kedah (1.14), Johor (1.12), Selangor (1.07), Kuala Lumpur (1.07), Melaka (1.06), Kelantan (1.04), Sabah, Penang and Pahang (1.02), Putrajaya (1.01), Perak (1.00), and Terengganu (0.85).
Labuan, Sarawak and Perlis have an Rt of zero.
The Health Ministry’s CovidNow website earlier reported 12 deaths, of which two are brought-in-dead cases. – The Vibes, January 27, 2022
