Kota Kinabalu: State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin has suggested that an international travel bubble or vaccinated travel lane like that between Malaysia and Singapore be implemented in Sabah.

"It is a matter of survival and rejuvenating the economic chain of the tourism sector including accommodation, transportation and travel agencies," the NST reported him as saying.

"I would like to express my appreciation and thank the government under the leadership of Ismail Sabri who understands the hardships experienced by many, especially those in Sabah's tourism industry."

Jafry spoke in response to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's statement that the government would be looking at reopening the country's borders to revive tourism.

Jafry said his ministry would also ensure safety and health are factored into any decision to reopen borders and that the Health Ministry and National Security Council’s views are taken into account.
