Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was able to convince Luis Diaz about a move to Anfield during a video call last week.
The Telegraph says Klopp spoke to Diaz on FaceTime last week as the Reds hijacked Tottenham's attempts to take the Porto winger to north London.
The Merseyside outfit announced the signing of Diaz on Sunday morning and he is set to link up with his new team-mates next week following his international duties with Colombia.
A FaceTime call was sanctioned between Klopp and Diaz – and the pair got on well.
The call was made when Diaz was in the Colombia team hotel preparing for a World Cup qualifier against Peru.
Liverpool and Porto had agreed a deal by Thursday morning, which was more or less the same as what Spurs had previously agreed. And, crucially, Liverpool agreed to pay an installment of just over £6.5m by this Monday.
All the paperwork has now been signed after the player passed a medical and agreed personal terms.
Liverpool are believed to have shelled out £50m to land their man and the player has agreed a five-year contract at Anfield.
