RANAU: The body of a missing senior citizen in Kg Tinanom, here, was found six days after he was last seen leaving home to check his fish traps in a flooded river by the village.

Moijin bin Gamiyan, 65, went to check the fish traps along the Keliu River on January 1, but failed to return home or contact his next-of-kin, prompting an integrated search and rescue (SAR) operation.

Ranau Police Chief DSP Simiun Lomudin said on Thursday, about 1.52pm, the villagers together with SAR officers found the body of a man believed to be the victim’s in Sungai Kelieu, near Kampung Betung Tinanom Ranau.

“The body was taken to Ranau Hospital for autopsy and identification process by family members. So far, the case is classified as sudden death),” he said, Friday.

Simiun said although there was no report on flooding in the village, the river water was on the brink of overflowing following torrential rain.

Personnel from the Ranau Fire and Rescue Department led by its Chief PPgB Ridwan bin Mohd Taib with Operation Officer PBK II Dennis Wan Jau conducted the tracking with the aid of the K9 unit and a Labrado named Lexi.

“After an extensive SAR operation, the body of the victim was found about 1km from the area where he was believed to have gone missing” said Ridwan.
