KUALA LUMPUR – This current situation involving the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and Lee Zii Jia is not at all what Malaysia or even the sport needs at this moment, said Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
Speaking to the Vibes, he says both parties must put their differences aside and make a decision in the best interest of the sport.
“If national interest is put first, then there will always be a solution,” he said.
Faizal also says he would meet with both parties to find a proper solution to this matter.
“BAM and Zii Jia must find a solution to this issue.
“We should not jeopardize the future of the player and also Malaysia’s ranking in the world badminton stage,” he added.
Earlier today the shocking announcement that Lee Zii Jia would be banned for two years was made by BAM deputy president Datuk Seri Jahaberdeen Mahamed Yunoos.
At the press conference, Jahaberdeen also announced that female shuttler Goh Jin Wei would be banned for two years effective October 31, 2022.
Jin Wei announced her departure from BAM in September 2021 but has since joined the Kuala Lumpur Racket Club earlier this month. – The Vibes, January 21, 2022.
