There seems to be a new Macau scam tactic going around, and PDRM has officially issued a public warning.

The Macau Scam Syndicate has now adopted a new deceitful tactic: by using the face of a police officer when making video calls to a possible victim.

According to the Sentul District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Beh Eng Lai, a 40-year-old housewife has recently made a police report regarding this incident.

The victim claimed to have received a video call from an individual who introduced himself as an "Insurance Officer" before she was connected to a "Police Officer". The case is now investigated under Section 420/511 of the Penal Code for attempted fraud.

This syndicate is particularly tricky as the video calls are made using a deep fake application that digitally alters a person's face to make them look like someone else.

So, if you receive a video call from someone pretending to be a police officer, ignore or hang up immediately! You could be their next potential victim if you're not careful.
