SHAH ALAM, Jan 2 — The climate change factor will be an important element in any future planning for Selangor, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said it is necessary to consider such steps, following the severe flooding that affected several areas in the state recently.

“The 2021 flooding disaster should be the impetus for us to undergo a paradigm shift. Frequently it has been reiterated that climate change is a major challenge for us all.

“Taking stock of these factors, the state government is proposing that climate change should be made an important element in any future planning,” he said in his address for the New Year 2022.

The extraordinary rainfall from December 17 to December 19 resulted in heavy flooding for many locations throughout Selangor, causing them to become submerged in water.

The Taman Sri Muda area in Section 25, Shah Alam, was one of the worst affected by the floodings on December 18.

The disaster resulted in the deaths of 14 people, as of December 22, while thousands of residents were relocated to temporary relief centres.
