SHAH ALAM, Jan 4 — Three local councils (PBTs) have completed their post-flood cleanup operations as of yesterday, said KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM).
In a Facebook post, it said the local councils include the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang), and the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj).
KDEBWM added that five other local councils have reached between 80 to 98 per cent progress, with almost 41,000 tonnes of bulk garbage collected.
The cleanup work progress for the five local councils are as follows;
– Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) – 80 per cent
– Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) – 82 per cent
– Klang Municipal Council (MPK) – 85 per cent
– Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) – 95 per cent
– Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) – 98 per cent
The state government-owned solid waste management company was involved in the cleanup operation of flood-affected areas for several districts in stages since December 19 last year.
KDEBWM also received assistance from volunteers and local councils from other states to expedite the process.
The torrential rain from December 17 until 19 resulted in double the rainfall compared to the previous high of 180 millimetres, causing severe flooding in several locations of Selangor.
