The high tide is estimated to happen in four days, starting 2 January (Sunday) to 5 January (Wednesday). “Although the high tide phenomenon this time is of smaller scale compared to the one in November, the situation will worse if accompanied by strong winds, big waves and heavy rain, which will cause flash floods, seawater overflow and coastal flooding,” the statement says.

The risky areas include Kedah (Kuala Muda), Perak (Bagan Datoh), Selangor (Klang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor), and Johor (Batu Pahat, Pontian).

People who are going to the seas for recreational or water activities are also advised to be extra careful. When heavy rain is expected, be ready to move to a safer place or follow the authorities’ guidelines.
