Welcome the Year of the Tiger with a lion dance championship

AS the Lunar New Year of 2022 arrives, it does so bringing in the year of the Tiger where the Chinese believes it will come with strength, exorcising of evils, and bravery. During such times, lion dances are the default hallmark feature of Chinese New Year celebrations in Malaysia. However, this has not been the case for the past two years with the raging of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

In order to keep this national cultural, arts and sporting heritage alive, Sinar Majestik Sdn Bhd in collaboration with the Malaysian Kuala Lumpur XinYang Athletic Association (新洋体育会) is set to celebrate the arrival of the Lunar Year of the Tiger with this lion dance championship. 

Official Opening Ceremony 

Date: January 8

Location  IOI Mall, Puchong 

Time: 10am 

Guest of Honour: Ong Kian Ming, MP for Bangi

Competition Proper

Organiser: Sinar Majestik Sdn Bhd 

Co-organiser: Malaysian Kuala Lumpur XinYang Athletic Association

Judging Panel: Malaysian Dragon and Lion Culture Federation

Dates: January 8th - 9th (Saturday & Sunday) 

Time: 11am to 8pm 

Location: IOI Mall, Puchong 

So far, 21 troupes from all over Malaysia including two national champions have confirmed their participation. 

Sinar Majestik is confident that this competition will pique the interest of the public in this national cultural, artistic and sporting heritage and that Malaysians of all walks of life will benefit from unique events such as this. It is timely that an event of this nature will spark a ‘feel-good factor’ and sow the seeds of ‘unity In Diversity’ amongst Malaysians of all races regardless of social  and economic affiliations. 

Sinar Majestik CEO Johnathan Wong added: “Having brought aid to many Malaysians affected  by both Covid-19 and the recent floods, we felt that hope was necessary for all Malaysians  to get through this together”.
