Liverpool striker Layton Stewart is on his way back from knee surgery.
Stewart suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage while playing for the U23s against West Ham United at Kirkby on March 13.
The road to recovery has been long and arduous. Now, though, Stewart is approaching the end of his rehabilitation with a return to action in sight.
"Layton is progressing really well and has been working ever so hard," says U23s boss Barry Lewtas.
"He is feeling really good. He's only a young boy so we have to make sure, especially with that type of injury, is that they heal and they heal properly.
"What you don't want is doing anything silly with his recovery when he is at that age."
Lewtas says of the 19-year-old: "He's involved in a few bits and bobs with us. In fact, he's having me design all bits of stuff for the things he is involved in with the session.
"Hopefully soon he will have the chance to be back playing. But he's already in with the lads and the group now, he's not with the physios as much now.
"We will see him again this season. It's just a matter of gradually building him up in training and working with contact again.
"To be fair, I'll be climbing the walls if he isn't back this season!"
