Up to Amanah: Salahuddin, on contesting in Johor polls

KUALA LUMPUR – It remains uncertain whether Amanah Deputy President Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub will contest in the upcoming Johor polls.

Speaking to The Vibes, Salahuddin said that he left it to the party to decide if he will contest.

“In my personal view, as a candidate, I did my best already for one term in the Simpang Jeram state seat.

“Now Amanah is in the process of finalising the names of candidates, and my division has already submitted three names for consideration,” Salahuddin told The Vibes.

In 2018, Salahuddin won the Simpang Jeram seat, beating Umno’s Mohd Radzi Amin and PAS’ Mohd Mazri Yahya with a 7,687 majority.

Salahuddin is also Pulai MP after beating incumbent Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed from Umno who held the seat for three terms since 2004.

The Johor election was triggered after Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad from Umno sought the dissolution of the state assembly from Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

The Election Commission is expected to meet on February 9 to determine nomination and voting dates. – The Vibes, January 27, 2022
