Kota Kinabalu: Hundreds of staff from various government agencies at Wisma Dang Bandang at Jalan Kampung Air here evacuated after the building shook at 3.30pm today, according to a report.

The shaking also caused the ceiling in the meeting room of a government agency on the 11th floor of the building to collapse.

Among the government agencies housed in the building were the Information Department, Meteorology Department, National Anti -Drug Agency and Immigration Department.

No injuries or fatalities were reported among the employees.

A spokesman for the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia said they received an emergency call at 3.32 pm.

He said all members of the public were instructed to remain in a safe gathering place in the compound of the building while monitoring was carried out.

"Based on the reports received, there were two tremors a few seconds apart," he was quoted as saying.

"We were informed the first tremor was stronger than the second one."
