Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has claimed that false positives were behind the COVID-19 outbreak at his club.

The Reds were unable to take part in their Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg against Arsenal in midweek, as they did not have enough players available to field a team.

Klopp now claims Trent Alexander-Arnold is the only real positive case in the squad, which suggests there were several false positives.

"This was the team we could line up with today and the boys did really well," said the Reds boss after their FA Cup third-round win against Shrewsbury on Sunday.

"We had last week a proper outbreak and it showed up that we had a lot of false positives but the rules are like they are so all these players who are false positives couldn't play.

"The only real positive came from Trent Alexander-Arnold and all the rest were false positives."
