Don’t I deserve protection? Najib swipes at Tommy’s bid to strike out suit

KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak took a swipe at former attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas for the latter’s attempt to strike out a suit.

Today, Najib filed an affidavit to respond to Thomas’ and the government’s application to nix the suit.

In a statement, Najib said the move to strike out his malicious prosecution suit is an attempt to prevent any wrongdoings against the Pekan MP from being aired in court.

He said that despite Thomas’ affirmation in court that the federal constitution guarantees everyone is entitled to equal protection of the law, the former attorney-general practises double standards.

“He averred that the federal constitution’s stipulation that all persons are equal before the law and entitled to equal protection of the law does not apply to himself as far as the prosecutions against me are concerned.

“Am I not afforded equal protection also, as other Malaysians?

“The facts I rely upon are contained in my affidavit and will be aired in court,” Najib said.

On October 22, Najib sued Thomas and Putrajaya claiming malicious prosecution over charges brought against in criminal cases tied to 1MDB.

A month later, both Thomas and the government applied to strike out the suit on grounds that Najib’s suit was frivolous and an abuse of the court process. – The Vibes, January 20, 2022
