Kota Kinabalu: Minster of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Yakub Khan welcomes the involvement of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in assisting the needy affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said this while addressing a ceremony to present school equipment to Kampung Saradan Rampayan Manggatal.

He said such gesture was the best initiative in the effort to help the less fortunate.

He cited the initiative taken by the Kelab Kebajikan Raisul Sabah in donating school equipment to underprivileged families.

“The club’s initiative shows the integrity and unity of the community in the area who are always concerned with the fate of the less fortunate.

“This effort is certainly an example of NGOs and other private companies to also help those who are less able, especially in this area,” he said.

Yakub, who is also Karambunai Assemblyman, said that NGOs together with other private companies need to come up with their own efforts and initiatives and do not have to wait for help from the government.

“NGOs are urged to be more sensitive in carrying out their responsibilities to help the government take care of the welfare of the people in need, especially those affected by Covid-19,” he said.
