Kota Kinabalu: Gerakan Sabah Chairman Datuk Alexander Lo Su Hyen lauded the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) State Government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for being approachable to the rakyat.

It is also supportive of the diverse cultures in Sabah, including that of the Chinese community.

He said the State Government allocated RM164.12 million for the implementation of educational and religious development programmes in this year’s State Budget, as well as a record allocation of RM47 million for non-Muslim religious bodies, vernacular, mission and independent schools.

Additionally, he said the State Government had allocated RM1 million for the lions that will be distributed to the various associations and lion dance troupes in conjunction with the Chinese New Year throughout the State.

“The GRS State Government has truly demonstrated its openness and support to the different cultures in Sabah.

“This also reflects Hajiji’s sincerity in addressing the needs and wellbeing of other ethnic groups and religious bodies.

“He is a shining example of a leader who embraces diversity and, thus should be supported by the Chinese community in Sabah,” Lo said after attending a Hajiji’s Chinese New Year luncheon with the Tuaran Chinese community leaders and Kapitan Cina, here, recently.

Hajiji, who is also Sulaman Assemblyman, announced an allocation of RM5,000 to each Chinese association in Tuaran and RM2,000 for Kapitans.

Hajiji’s ang pow to the Chinese community in Tuaran were most welcomed as the associations have lost their source of income for not being able to organise Chinese New Year activities for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Chief Minister also distributed Mandarin oranges during the luncheon and conveyed his Chinese New Year greetings to the attendees.
