
Kota Kinabalu: A 33-year-old man was fined RM5,000 or two months jail by the Traffic Court on Monday for displaying a fake car plate number on his vehicle.
Shahrul Syazwani Mahdi pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to committing the offence at 3.10pm on Feb 5, 2020at the parking lot, Lorong Komplexs BSA, Kolombong.
The charge was framed under 108 (3)(f) of the Road Transport Act which provides for a fine of between RM5,000 and RM20,000 or jail or both on conviction.
Traffic prosecuting officer Inspector Mohammad Khairul Nizam Mokhtar informed the court that a report lodged by a Customs officer regarding the seizure of a Honda Civic car using a fake plate number on Feb 5, 2020.
A check by the Customs enforcement also found that the chassis number was not the same as the original chassis number, said Khairul Nizam.
Counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence representing Shahrul, requested a lenient sentence and told the court that the car belonged to his wife.
