Newcastle are pushing hard to prise Dan Burn from Brighton.

The Seagulls rejected an initial offer this week, says The Argus.

Toon are in a race against time to add personnel to their quest to protect Premier League status as Monday's transfer deadline nears.

Burn has produced his best form yet for Albion in recent weeks.

It would appear Newcastle are hoping the lure of a return to his home area – to play for the club he grew up supporting - will prove irresistible.

But they would first need to meet Albion's valuation of him.

Toon need a centre-back and Diego Carlos of Sevilla is their prime target.

But, with a potential deal proving difficult, Burn could become a shrewd back-up option going into the final day of the window.
