BELURAN: The second death in the New Year's weekend floods that hit parts of Sabah has been reported in Beluran.
The 60-year-old local man drowned after being swept away in Sungai Liningkung Telupid this morning.
District police chief DSP Kasim Muda said the farmer was trying to cross the river to head towards a house inundated in floodwaters when he was swept away at about 9am.
Villagers found the man unconscious not far away at about 2pm and took him to the Telupid Health Clinic, where he was pronounced dead.
The first death in the weekend floods also occurred in Beluran, which like some other areas in the interior as well as northern and eastern Sabah, have been receiving heavy rainfall since New Year's eve.
