Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk insists Manchester City's Premier League lead is thanks to 'luck'.
City have won 11 Premier League games on the bounce ahead of their next clash with second-placed Chelsea to move ten points clear of Thomas Tuchel's men, with Liverpool a point behind in third.
Liverpool do have a game in hand to potentially reduce City's lead to eight points, however City's relentless form has seen them take control of a title race many had hoped would see the three sides battling until the final weeks of the season.
"City got through the month of December particularly well," Van Dijk bemoaned.
"They had few injuries and few corona cases and that helps enormously. A small example is that me, Fabinho and Thiago all tested positive for Covid at the same time, three players who are important to the team.
“A big club like Liverpool still has good quality players, but the rhythm and dynamics of the team changes at such a time. There are still so many games to play - but you also need a bit of luck at this stage."
