SHAH ALAM, Jan 15 — The process of transferring post-flood solid waste from the transfer station (TS) to the landfill was completed yesterday.
KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd managing director (KDEBWM) Ramli Mohd Tahir said the TS in Section 21 here was the last station to be closed following the closure of 10 other stations earlier.
“The TS has been operating since December 21 as the temporary transit centre for areas under the purview of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) before the waste was sent to Tanjung 12 and Jeram landfills.
“During peak hours, the amount of post-flood solid waste here had exceeded 12,000 tonnes,” he said when met after monitoring the transfer process involving the last Roll-On-Roll-Off (RoRo) lorry at the TS station, here yesterday.
He said during its 25 days of operation, a total of six excavators and 40 lorries with 10-tonnes capacity were used to ensure the post-flood waste could be sent to the landfill immediately.
In a related development, Ramli said KDEBWM was focusing on disinfection work as well as cleaning clogged ditches in the second phase of the cleanup process.
He said the disinfection effort will be done according to the Effective Microbiology technology as a way to prevent post-flood diseases.
“Last week, the Menteri Besar monitored the disinfection work at Kampung Padang Jawa and we will be expanding the effort to other areas.
“We want to take strict prevention measures by spraying disinfection in the flood-stricken areas,” he said while adding KDEBWM aims to complete the second phase of the cleanup process in three months.
