Kota Kinabalu: Tabs Safa Bandaraya intends to organise a youth football tournament this year to provide exposure to the players training under their programme.
Its deputy chairman, Lokman Sunggim (pic) said it is one of the activities that will be handled by the Tabs coaching unit in the New Year.
“The main purpose is to give exposure to our trainees currently under the grassroots football development programme.
“For a start, the coaching unit will organise the Under-12 in-house football carnival.
“This is important for the players apart from being given training and guidance, they should also be given exposure to compete in their age group tournament,” he said on Sunday.
He also hoped that the training sessions held every weekend would continue to be conducted in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the government. “Currently, we find that the response to new trainees is increasing and at the same time, we are getting good cooperation from the trainee’s parents,” he added.
Meanwhile, he also expressed his thanks to the donations of balls from parents and individuals, including Papar Umno division vice-chief Hasrul Awang Tengah and former Papar Member of Parliament Datuk Rosnah Rashid Shirlin at a ceremony held on the same day.
Also present were Sabah Football Association (Safa) Executive Secretary David Wisom, Safa Bandaraya Secretary Dg. Juraidah Abdul Rahim and Tabs Assistant Head Coach Roslan Wasli.
