Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Forestry Department (SFD) is the first in the country to set up its K9 (canine) Unit, which has been proven effective in enforcement actions against poaching, stripping of mangrove bark inside mangrove forest and illegal harvesting of agarwood.
Challenges and issues in forest enforcement in Sabah include encroachment in forest reserves, illegal exploitation of forest reserve and state land, besides poaching, stripping of mangrove bark inside mangrove forest and illegal harvesting of agarwood.
