Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is furious being trumped by Liverpool to the signing of Porto star Luis Diaz.

The Brazilian winger is on his way to Anfield after Liverpool agreed a blockbuster £50million transfer deal with Porto.

The Telegraph says Spurs had even agreed terms with Porto to recruit Diaz for £48m plus add-ons.

However, the Reds had other ideas and put together an offer of their own - led by incoming sports director Julian Ward - to hijack Tottenham's Diaz deal that had hit the skids after super agent Jorge Mendes waded into the negotiations.

Despite Spurs' interest, Diaz preferred a move to Liverpool - and an alleged face time call with Kop boss Jurgen Klopp helped sweeten the deal.

Levy was said to be incensed when he heard the Reds had courted Tottenham's top transfer target and frantically tried to stop it by threatening to expose Liverpool's recruitment staff's tactics to the club's owners John W Henry and Mike Gordon.

But Levy's desperate attempt to get the Reds to back down had no effect as Henry and Gordon had no issues with their staff's conduct.

And with Levy all out of options, Diaz's move to Liverpool went ahead without a glitch.
