Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte spoke with the club's hierarchy before leaving Tanguy Ndombele out of his team for the Carabao Cup semi final second leg against Chelsea.
Spurs were unable to make a fist of the contest at home, having already been 2-0 down after the first leg at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea had the better chances throughout the contest, and booked their place in the final with a narrow 1-0 second leg win.
Asked why Ndombele was missing, Conte said the following: "It was a technical decision but before to take the decision, I don't take the decision if I don't consult the club.
"There is the club line and I have to follow the club line."
