Police to step up Covid-19 SOP monitoring for CNY

KUALA LUMPUR – Police will increase standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance operations nationwide, especially during the Chinese New Year celebrations on February 1.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Hazani Ghazali said this is to ensure the public complies with Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) issued by the National Security Council.

“This is also the government’s effort to contain the spread of Covid-19 infection.

“Strict action will be taken against individuals who fail to comply with the NRP SOPs under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 324),” he said in a statement today.

On Wednesday, National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique announced the SOPs for the 2022 Chinese New Year celebration, which is more relaxed than last year’s, including allowing for family reunion dinners and house visits.

Halimah said among the events allowed are family reunion dinners on January 31, prayers at temples on February 1 and 2, and special prayers for the Hokkien clan on February 8 and 9, as well as and religious activities on their respective premises in the evening of both days.

Also allowed are lion and dragon dance performances, subject to creative industry SOPs. – Bernama, January 23, 2022
