Abdul Rahim Hashim is new PetChem chairman

KUALA LUMPUR – Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem) has appointed Datuk Abdul Rahim Hashim as chairman effective January 1, 2022.

PetChem told Bursa Malaysia today that Rahim, 68, previously held various senior positions in Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), including as vice-president (VP) of the human resource management division, VP for gas business and VP of research and technology division, the post that he held until his retirement in December 2008.

He started his career in the national oil company as an electrical engineer after graduating from the University of Birmingham, Britain, in 1976. He subsequently rose to managing director and chief executive officer of Petronas Penapisan (Melaka) Sdn Bhd and Malaysian Refining Company Sdn Bhd.

Rahim was also Universiti Teknologi Petronas vice-chancellor between 2012 and 2017, and vice-chancellor of the University of Malaya between 2017 and 2020.

He is currently a director at the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology. – Bernama, January 14, 2022
