
Kota Kinabalu: A 33-year-old jobless man was sentenced to four months’ jail and fined RM2,000 or two months jail on Tuesday for having stolen property.
Mohd Fandi Nasir pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to having 13 stolen aluminium window frames rods and two screwdrivers at 3.40pm, on Jan 11 at Jalan Bukit Bendera Lower.
Fandi had committed an offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both, on conviction.
The court ordered Fandi to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.
In another case, a self-employed man was recharged with dishonestly misappropriates of property.
Voo Li Kiam claimed trial to misappropriated RM41,515, which was the collection money belonging to KS Filter Sdn Bhd, for his own use between Dec 8, 2018 and Jan 26, 2019 at the company premises in Inanam.
The charge under Section 403 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between six months and five years and whipping and liability of a fine on conviction.
The prosecution proposed bail at RM3,000.
Counsel Ram Singh and Kimberly Ye, representing Voo, applied for lower bail by submitting that before he was discharged not amounting to an acquittal of the charge, Voo made no attempt to abscond and that the previous bail was RM2,300.
The court set Feb 16 for pre-trial case management and released Voo on a bail of RM1,000 in one surety.
